WordCamp Birmingham
Thats right folks, for the first time in the South. WordCamp is coming to Birmingham, Alabama!
Taken from BarCamp Wiki!
WordCamp Birmingham is an informal gathering of WordPress users where we teach, learn, eat, drink and generally have fun with one another. This would be the first WordCamp in the Southeastern United States; it’s being held in conjunction with the first ever South by Deep South (SxDS) conference and will be occurring at the same time as the 10th annual Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival, the Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival and the opening of a one of a kind exhibit of the work of Leonardo da Vinci in late September.
Leave your stereotype at the gate, and join us in the Heart of Dixie. I know when I moved here 10 years ago, I was amazed they had electricity and running water. Now I’ve fallen in love with the place. The beauty of the state and the amazing culture of people will leave you impressed. There will be something for everyone, and you will find pure southern hospitality.
While you are here we are also having the inaugural South by Deep South (SxDS) an unconfrence of like minds and hearts. Read “It’s a date!” for full the full announcement.
I will see you there!

I hope everyone likes the new Zerosource. I took out the Dark black theme and put in one I like better. I also did away with all the advertisment. I’m not really looking to make anything from this, but figured what the hell. Well with anything I’m free to change my mind and therefore I did. No Ads! Not that I won’t tell you about a company I like and or even the company I work for, but no more random Ads. I will continue to write post that interest me and hopefully you.
While i’m writing I also want to say thanks to Birmingham Magazine, thanks for the mention for the Birmingham Pulse in the Article on the current issue August 2008. I recommend you pick it up. It list the Essential Birmingham websites. While my site the Birmingham Pulse is not essential it is mentioned. (Page 86 btw) So go pick up the magazine. Found out from The Terminal of course.
And if you are not a follower and reader of the Birmingham Terminal, let me take this time to tell you this site is Essential! I wish every city I’ve lived in had a group as dedicated to an online forum/magazine as the Terminal does. Thanks Andre Natta and group! Great work, it is a daily read for me.
So let me know, how do you like the new site?

This time out we decided to go to Oak Mountain State Park and hike some trails. We happened to show up during Bump n Grind. So we drove up toward Peavine Falls. On our way up we found this spot to Picnic. The view was breath taking, this is a picture of the view from the picnic table. It was secluded with only a vehicle every now and then passing.
After lunch we went on up to Peavine Falls parking and hiked up to the falls. Not long at all but it is a bit of a climb in altitude. It goes up from about 620 feet to about 1100 feet. Once we reached the falls we stayed there for a while and let the kids and the dog play in the water.
We had planned to go further and take the blue trail from the falls but my oldest started feeling bad. I think it was lunch, bologna just sits heavy during the heat. Mind you it was also 90+ degree’s. So we turned around and headed home. It was a good trip, we got to drive around the mountain and check out the areas we want to visit and got a taste of the climb on the trails. We will return and hike again at Oak Mountain.

Hope everyone had a great three day weekend. We decided on Saturday to wake up and try to finish the trail we started last time. We took the Slave Cemetery Trail. This trail is not long but understand we are all out of shape and fat. I don’t believe in lying so there it is. We had a single goal to make it to the Cemetery and we did. We completed that part of it. We then followed the rest of the trail around back over to the Civil War reenactment and watched it for a while. We actually didn’t stay for the complete reenactment but we got to see the cannons fire.
We have now decided we enjoy hiking. When I say “we” I mean “me”, not everyone is on board but I think we are off to a good start. Being we are new I’m asking for your help. We are going to start off easy with some Oak Mountain Trails. Going to also being doing only single day hikes. I hope one day to do a multi day hike, but first I have to figure out how to explain to my girls that means peeing in the woods, and how my daughter can charge her Mp3 player. So here is the list of what I think we need, remember there are 5 of us including our dog.
- Water Containers - 140 oz (recommended for 4 hours of hiking for 5 people)
- Back Packs (We need 5, what do you recommend?)
- Tents (We think 5 individual tents)
- Water Treatment (We ran out of water last trip, not good)
- Cooking Gear (Same with tents will be needing eventually)
- Sleeping Bags
- Alcohol Stove
If you can recommend anything else please let me know, leave a comment. We are new so any advise is good advise. I also need a good “Trail Mix Recipe”. If you have one please let me know.

The family woke up Saturday morning and just decided to take off and go humping (hiking for you non combatants) up to Tannehill Historical State Park. If you live near Alabama and haven’t been there it is beautiful this time of year. It was good leaving behind what I could of technology and just wondering through the woods. I of course couldn’t leave it all behind being I am on call this weekend and the pager had to go nuts, but we had a great time. We will be going back soon, this month on the 24-25th they will have Civil War reenactments. If you have never seen this before, it is like stepping back in time… but with a pager.
