Hulu.Com has decided to block people from using their site with Boxee. Jason Kilar CEO of Hulu writes
“Our content providers requested that we turn off access to our content via the Boxee product, and we are respecting their wishes. While we stubbornly believe in this brave new world of media convergence — bumps and all — we are also steadfast in our belief that the best way to achieve our ambitious, never-ending mission of making media easier for users is to work hand in hand with content owners.”
They gave up on us. This is bigger then just Hulu and Boxee. This sets a precedence that we cannot allow to happen. This is the same as your Cable/Dish provider saying you can only watch their shows via a certain brand of TV sets. Or your Internet Service Provider only allowing you to use their services with a certain make of computer, or Operating System. He claims
“Our mission to make media dramatically easier and more user-focused has not changed”
Well it certainly has changed. He later says without content provider none of this would be possible. Well without Users none of this is possible. This is true more so than the content providers.
So I call on everyone, to Boycott Hulu. To let them know the users will not take this. Remember it is the User that Makes a Site, Not the content.

I am very sad that this happened. I just got apple tv. boxee and was looking forward to usuing hulu on it since i truley don’t get the time during the busy day to look on the internet.
I am just very disapointed
Stop your whining, buy a PC, hook it up to your PC and your problems will be solved. I tried Boxee and the UI sucks. Plex on a Mac Mini is far better.
First off, I do not use Boxee, I will one day probably but as of yet I haven’t had time to. This is nothing to do with Boxee at all but the way Hulu is treating Boxee and Hulu caving into content providers. I already have a PC hooked up for TV, thanks tho.
whoops, meant to say buy a PC and hook it up to your TV… You can do far more with that then the stupid Apple TV anyway.
Boxee has nothing really to do with AppleTV other then it runs on it, it also runs in windows and Linux.
I hate the Boxee interface so I just go to the site in the browser and get Boxee on my TV that way, it isn’t hard. This is simple for Boxee to fix, all they have to do is make it appear that the browser is Firefox or Safari and there isn’t much Hulu can do to block that at that point.
This has nothing to do with the interface or even your liking of said product. It has to do with Hulu being controlled by it’s content providers. And its content providers being douchebags. Yes a useragent hack could be done relatively quickly but the Boxee team shouldn’t have to resort to such tactics or circumvent anything. It’s available in a browser for free , it should be provided to all capable terminals that wish to access it.
Ditto – BOYCOTT! Be sure to tell all your friends – HULU is a dead end. Let’s ignore it & wait for a provider that GETS the Internet.
