During these days of a sluggish economy you really can’t go wrong with free. Ubuntu is free, you just have to download or request that they send you a CD and yes they will send you a free CD. You can also pay for the CD if you do so choose (Recommended). I’ve been using Ubuntu for a while now, and while it isn’t the Slackware that I cut my teeth on with Linux it is a great Linux Operating System. Truly a replacement for anyone bored with Windows.
This book is a very easy read with detailed instructions on setting up and running your machine with Ubuntu. Starting with Chapter One: Installing Ubuntu through Chapter Six: Software Managment a total of 165 pages. It is a quick guide for all those people that ask me daily questions “Hey I listened to you and got Ubuntu, but how do I?” Well now you can use the Guide. If you are seriously bored with windows, and want to try Ubuntu this guide will be something you look to on a daily basis.
The author of the book Keir Thomas has been a user and follower of Ubuntu since 2005. In 2008 he and The Pragmatic Programers worked together to put out a little jewel of a book Ubuntu Kung Fu: Tips, Tricks, Hints, and Hacks. This is a great book to add to your collection once you have fallen in love with Ubuntu.
Let me just say once again… You can get both for Free! Now is the time to try Ubuntu.
