Reasons NOT to send E-Cards

It is holiday time again, and everyone wants to be the “Little Tech Elf” and send their friends and family E-Cards. Well I’m going to tell you why you shouldn’t.

They Are Impersonal

Per definition:

not personal; not representing a person; not having personality; Lacking warmth or emotion; cold; that which desires personality

I’m a tech person, and it actually means more that you take the time to pick out a real card and send it. It is something tangible that the person can hold in their hands and or display. If you just want to send a quick note to someone, or let them know you are thinking about them, just send an email.

I Want To Receive A Ton of SPAM, Please!

You could be giving away your friends and/or families email address to spammers. If you have not heard the saying “Nothing in life is free” well neither is e-cards. The legitimate companies that “Give Away Free E-cards” are actually either showing you banners for money or selling the list of Email address they collect. Someone is going to make money somewhere.

There is a lot of money in spam. Read Terry Zink’s Anti Spam Blog : How much do spammers actually make? But just like any business there is cost, and one of those cost is getting a good list. So not only are their spammers, but there are companies that make these list. Some use “bots” to surf the web looking for e-mail addresses. Some send emails to people trying to get a response of any kind. Why do all this work, when you can just collect them from people sending e-cards. They get at least 2 legitimate email address from each user.

SPAM FILTER EAT CARD Yummm! Yummm!

They are blocked by most commercial spam and virus filters. Due to the use of E-Cards in recent Virus and Phishing attacks most commercial spam and virus filters block them at the server level. So the person you are sending them to never sees them.

If your Spam and Virus filter is not blocking E-Cards, contact me about v.Protect

Will you be sending E-Cards this Year?

I’d be interested to know if you are going to be sending E-Cards this year? Have you sent them before? How do you feel when you receive them?
